Are you having trouble motivating your children to behave well? Are they always having arguments as siblings? Do you find it hard to maintain discipline in your class or group of young kids? If so, sew and try this new penguin goal setting felt board, with which you can motivate your kids to do the right thing, set common goals for them and give positive feedback on their achievements.
HOW TO PLAY?
Help the penguin find the way back home, then make it jump from ice-float to ice-float to get to its cosy igloo.
Decide on a common goal which you and your child want to achieve by helping the penguin go home. It can purely be helping the penguin get home or you can offer your child a special family programme or some extra playtime, for example.
Every time a positive reaction is given by your child in a difficult situation, or at the end of the day, an ice-float gets attached to the the felt board until the way is clearly seen. After that, good behaviour can be rewarded by letting the penguin return home step by step.
In a group or class, children need to cooperate and help the penguin together by being a good team.
WHAT’S THE SIZE OF THE FELT BOARD?
The size of the felt board is 35 × 103 cm / 14” x 40 ½” . It can be attached to a regular hanger thanks to its 3 hanging loops so that you can hang it up on a door handle or a nail. The penguin is about 8 x 8 cm / 3 ¼” x 3 ¼”.
WHAT MATERIALS TO USE?
Just like my Numbers, Shapes and Colours Interactive Felt Board, it’s recommended to be made of quality wool felt, because it’s durable and naturally moisture-resistant.
WHAT SEWING SKILLS ARE NEEDED?
This is an easy, step by step photo tutorial.
Originally, the patterns of the penguin and the fish have been designed for hand sewing and all the other parts were sewed using a sewing machine. However, feel free to applique by hand. Learn how to applique easily from this blog post.
To sew the fixed parts, you need to know how sew straight using a sewing machine.
